The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated
11/12/2025Greets and salutations!
I've received a few emails recently (one including a screenshot of a very lovely pog posted in memoriam) and some people are concerned about my disappearance from my usual e-haunts.
I've started a new job and it's meant less time for me to be online, but the reality was that a lot of the projects I was pouring my time into were not paying back in kind. When I started posting to Agora Road I wrote an article titled something like "becomming Santa Klaus", which recalled a time when I found out that Santa Klaus wasn't real and my dad told me I must now become Santa Klaus. This, for me, was a big developmental moment in my life where I transitioned from a Consumer Of Christmas to a Creator Of Other People's Christmases. Unfortunately, it seems a lot of the wider internet did not get this same memo.
While this may seem directly critical of Agora Road in particular, this void of Kris Kringles exists across the web - I've visited a few other forums and sites and the situation is the same. There are a lot of very hungry consumers making half-assed posts and not a lot of providers making juicy-assed posts.
Meatspace is also full of a lot of people who are not very good at Bringing The Party, and I've had to endure a lot of customers in my job who want to broadcast and complain without doing much in the way of listening, providing or participating. Fortunately, the people I work with are very emotionally intelligent and well-rounded humans, and I've also found a "third place" that isn't work or home, and through that venue I've met new people.
There's also a rumour that I had left IRC somewhat explosively and, well, yeah. I'd lingered around there too long until it festered, which wasn't fair on anyone involved. I wish them all the best and hope they continue Movie Night. I've emailed the files for the Movie Night page to Eris and Vitnira, and while the page has been removed from my site nav, it's still there under the old URL.
The reality of me evaporating from Agora is actually far more mundane. I've not exactly 'left' Agora, but I also don't really have a reason to go back. I've made some new friends in meatspace and I'm making plans and going out places, and I don't have to tolerate what I once had to in order to receive social interaction.
If anyone wants to write to me (or invite me to vaporwave listen parties), my email is still punp at proton dot me.
Shoutout to Mamoya, Nobo, DRG, Shinobu, BigPing, MyspaceTom, Stonehead, Genosad, Sneaky, Eden, JoJo, Alix, Zalaz, Kud, No56, Dann, RisingThumb, those guys with the complicated names I can't remember but can only visualise, Hammerkoopa and Zachwave.
